You will quickly be attacked by the Ponitc factions, maybe Amenia, and Arch-Bosporus. This has to be the hardest "Greek" faction start bar none (yes, even harder than Syracuse). You also need several turns of research before you can get the next level of military building that actually contains their hoplite or pike unit (lvl 2 Hellenic for hoplite and lvl 2 Caucus for pike). Everyone around you hates you, except for the two other Caucus factions, and that makes your starting trade faction bonuses underwhelming. The hardest starts I have experienced are Colchis and Roxolani.Ĭolchis has a poor starting roster (literally just levy trash troops) and even their later roster is all inferior versions of surrounding troop types (Ex: your hoplites only have 30 armor compared to the 35 armor on Pontic and Bosporan hoplites). Most of the barbarian factions start near beatable enemies that allow you to consolidate your starting province. Rome is also not so bad if you make peace with Epirus (letting them keep Taras) because you can prevent the "Carthage declare war" script from triggering as long as you don't consolidate Southern Italy. So far most of the Hoplite and Pike factions are not so bad as you can funnel enemy waves into pointy death. Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists!
